Orthodontic Symposia

The program features lectures which analyze the interaction of the two specialty entities from both, scientific and clinical perspectives.

  • It includes an introductory section where fundamentals of oral physiology with relation to orthodontic-periodontic interactions are analyzed, including microbial attachment to surfaces, organization of pellicle and epidemiology of the periodontal disease

  • The subsequent section on periodontal considerations of the orthodontic patient entails aspects of periodontic examination of the orthodontic patient, gingiva recession and grafting, surgical management of recessions, clinical attachment level and corticotomy in orthodontic practice

  • The last section on orthodontic considerations in periodontic patient treatment lists presentations on the stresses induced by orthodontics to the periodontium, biomechanics in compromised periodontal tissues, orthodontics in advanced periodontitis, and a review of the evidence on the orthodontic-periodontic interactions
