Despina Koletsi is currently Senior Teaching and Research Staff at the Clinic of Orthodontics and Pediatric Dentistry, University of Zurich. She qualified from the School of Dentistry, University of Athens and received her orthodontic training from the same University, where she completed a Master of Science in Orthodontics. She earned a Doctorate from the University of Bonn and a second Master’s Degree in Epidemiology from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, University of London. She also completed the postgraduate programme in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education of the University of London and obtained the University of London Worldwide Recognised Tutor Status. She has been in private orthodontic practice in Athens, Greece, since 2012.
Dr Koletsi has published more than 90 research and educational papers in international peer- reviewed journals and has given more than 40 lectures and presentations. Her Hirsch (H) index is 25, with more than 1,500 citations. Her scientific work has received the highest distinction from the European Orthodontic Society in 2015, the WJB Houston Research Award. She is reported within the top 0.02% of scholars writing about Orthodontics over the past 10 years based on the Expertscape’s network PubMed- based algorithms [https://www.expertscape.com/ex/orthodontics] and is the sole woman scientist in the top- 10 list. She has been supervisor, co- supervisor or advisor of 25 theses in 10 Laboratories, 6 Universities, across 4 countries. Her research interests and areas of expertise expand on orthodontics, oral health, epidemiology, research methodology and meta- epidemiology. She currently serves as Associate Editor of the European Journal of Orthodontics, is member of the editorial board of 7 peer- reviewed journals and acts as an Independent Reviewer for over 35 international journals across Biomedicine, including the prestigious British Medical Journal.
