Orthodontic Symposia

The program features lectures which analyze the composition of aerosol as well as its variation with grinding parameters (wet/dry, high and low speed rotary instruments) from both scientific and clinical perspectives.

  • The first section includes an introductory section on aerosol generation during grindings the particulate size and status as well as fundamentals on composite resin composition and structure.
  • The subsequent section on effects of aerosol on the respiratory system and pulmonary implications, the microbiological considerations of the airborne bacteria, and xeno-estrogenic action owing to the presence of Endocrine Disrupting Chemicals (EDCs) in the aerosol are analyzed and guidelines are formed to limit their extent during general dental practice and specifically orthodontic debonding.
  • The last section on deals with the final stages of orthodontic treatment (debonding and lingual fixed retainer bonding) where advances in the relevant fields of using auxiliaries to facilitate efficient resin grinding, considerations in lingual fixed retainer bonding and the future of materials and processes such as command-debond adhesives are presented.
